We urge you to vote YES on Measure 88 for safe roads

Oregon legislators from both sides of the aisle came together last year to pass the Driver Card law because they knew that it would make Oregon roads and communities safer. They voted “YES” despite differences in their views about immigration reform. They voted “YES” for thousands of Oregon parents, seniors, students, and workers who need to drive every day in our state. As Governor Kitzhaber said earlier this week, “Driver cards for safer roads was a good idea then – and it’s a good idea now.”

People who obtain Driver Cards will pass the State’s road test, pass the State’s behind-the-wheel test, provide proof of residence in Oregon for more than one year, and provide proof of identity and date of birth - so they can safely and legally drive.

An opposition group put the Driver Card up for referendum because they know that most Oregonians – like a majority of Americans – agree that there is a need for comprehensive immigration reform, but do not have consensus on how to get there. But we shouldn’t be fooled – Measure 88 isn’t about immigration. Measure 88 is about making sure that all Oregonians have access to safe and legal driving. That’s why every major Oregon paper - The Oregonian, Bend Bulletin, Register-Guard, Portland Tribune, and more – has joined in the broad coalition of faith leaders, business leaders, law enforcement and advocacy organizations in endorsing YES on Measure 88.

Undocumented Oregonians are our neighbors, friends, classmates, and coworkers. Vote YES on Measure 88 for safer Oregon roads and communities.
