Legal Intake Volunteer

The ACLU of Oregon seeks highly motivated applicants for legal intake volunteers.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal intake volunteers will work closely with legal department staff to screen, research, respond and track requests for legal assistance related to a broad spectrum of civil liberties and constitutional law issues.

QUALIFICATIONS
Intake volunteers must volunteer at least two 4-hour shifts per month. Undergraduate students in their third or fourth year or students who have recently graduated are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have excellent written and interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, and an interest in civil liberties issues. Applicants should be comfortable conducting research on the internet and using Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Fluency in a language other than English is a plus.

BENEFITS
Legal intake volunteers will have the opportunity to develop investigation skills; increase their familiarity of community resources available for resolving legal disputes; and garner a better understanding of how civil liberties principles affect our day-to-day lives. Bus fare provided. Students are encouraged to seek academic credit but are responsible for arranging for credit themselves. This is an unpaid opportunity.

TO APPLY
Please email a letter of interest, a résumé, and a two-page writing sample to Sarah Armstrong by September 12, 2011. In your letter tell us why you would like to volunteer at the ACLU of Oregon and what civil liberties issues concern you the most.
