Local Chapters & Networks

Regional Chapters & Action Networks

Local groups help to advance the work of the ACLU of Oregon by monitoring local governmental activities, educating their community on civil liberties issues, participating in coalitions with other organizations and speaking out when civil liberties or civil rights are threatened. By joining together with other people who are interested in civil liberties issues you can make a difference in your local community.

CHAPTERS

ACLU of Oregon currently has two chapters that offer members and supporters an opportunity to be involved in a local organized group. In addition to monitoring local issues, engaging in public education and helping organize special projects, each chapter holds an Annual Membership Meeting and chapter board elections once a year. Members who live in an area with a chapter are eligible to serve on the local chapter board. All ACLU of Oregon supporters are encouraged to volunteer with one of our local chapters:

Benton-Linn Chapter
The Benton-Linn Chapter includes members in Benton and Linn Counties.

Lane County Chapter
The Lane County Chapter includes members that live in Lane County.

To learn how you can get involved in your local chapter, email Claire Syrett, Field Director, or phone her at 541-345-6162.

ACTION NETWORKS

The Action Network allows ACLU of Oregon to support members who want to be active in areas without established chapters. If you are interested in helping form an action network in your area please contact Claire Syrett, Field Director.

Marion/Polk
The ACLU of Oregon is working to establish a local action network of Marion and Polk County members. This is a brand new effort and we could use your help! The Marion/Polk Action Network will bring ACLU members together to take action on ACLU’s priority issues. Activities will include planning and participating in educational and community events, lobbying on local and state issues, and providing the state organization with a local perspective on emerging community issues. If you would like more information about our new action network in Marion/Polk counties, please  contact us.

Southern Oregon
The Southern Oregon Action Network includes members and supporters in Josephine and Jackson Counties. The next meeting will take place on Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 10 a.m. – noon at the Ashland Public Library.

OTHER LOCAL INVOLVEMENT

If you live in an area that does not have a Chapter or Action Network there are other ways for you to get active. If you would like to form an interest group, host a house party, organize a viewing of an ACLU DVD or video, or help out with other activities in your area visit our volunteer page or DIY page to find out how to get started.
