Use of Force Committee—Taser Public Forum
The Eugene Police Commission’s Use of Force committee will be taking public comment on the draft Taser policy for Eugene Police at a public forum. If you are concerned about the use of Tasers in Eugene and elsewhere in Oregon, this is your chance to give your input and make your voice heard on this critical issue. The Eugene City Council will be deliberating on the Taser policy in the weeks following this public forum. The ACLU of Oregon will be there to offer our perspective on the draft policy as well as our recommendations for use of Tasers.
The ACLU of Oregon maintains that both Eugene’s current Taser policy and the proposed revisions are overly broad and should be more restrictive. We recommend that Tasers be used only in those situations that otherwise would be most likely to escalate to require the use of deadly force. Learn more about ACLU of Oregon’s recommendations on the use of Tasers.
This forum is free and open to the public.
