Family unity should be at the forefront of the state’s goal when recognizing and addressing the collateral consequences incarceration has on children. The Oregon Center for Incarcerated Mothers and Their Children is an expansion of the Family Preservation Project, and rightly offers mothers and children trauma-informed and culturally competent practices and resources during transition to minimize the negative impacts incarceration has on families.
