The initiative we're fighting against seeks to overturn a 31-year-old state law limiting the use of local and state law enforcement resources for federal immigration activities. Since 1987, Oregonians have been protected from unlawful targeting based solely on the color of their skin. Doing away with protections against the targeting of people of color will take Oregon back to a time when racial profiling was even more rampant.
In the 60-minute session, you'll gain a better sense of the struggles and victories immigrant communities have faced in Oregon since its founding. We will also dive deeper into the dangers of losing protections against the targeting of people of color and we'll discuss the issue in a national context.
The ACLU of Oregon continues to work in a coalition of more than 70 organizations and groups across the state to defend against anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim policies and ballot measures in order to ensure that all Oregonians, regardless of country of birth, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
